Meet Finn Judge, our first young Trustee

Young Citizens has just appointed our first-ever young Trustee in our 30 year history.

This is part of the Board of Trustees’ efforts to ensure that young people’s voices are heard right across the organisation – in keeping with the mission and values of Young Citizens.  The new young Trustee is Finn Judge, politics graduate and former sabbatical officer at his students union.  Finn has the drive to engage young people with issues that matter most to them and to encourage them to take positive action – which is essential to our charity’s vision.

Finn has been involved in lots of charity fundraising, including raising regular income for St John Ambulance on a door to door basis, promoting first aid tuition in schools and keeping alumni relations ‘warm’ for his university, the University of York. He was also elected as a sabbatical officer and charity trustee for the York Students’ Union and represented over 200 student groups.

During his role as a sabbatical officer, he represented over 200 student groups and also founded ‘Activities Access Grants’ for low-income students and led on grant disbursement for clubs and societies. Finn also studied English Literature and Government and Politics at A-Level and received a 1st class honours in BA politics with international relations at the University of York.

Being a sabbatical officer meant Finn was also a trustee, he chaired the HR and Audit Committee, supervising YUSU’s People Strategy and Best Companies Survey outcomes. Alongside this Finn has also interned on the Foreign desk at The Times newspaper, and managed a 48-page newspaper at university whilst writing news features and providing editing and formatting.

As well as becoming our first young Trustee, Finn is just starting employment with UCL as a trainee fundraiser so will aim to offer strategic guidance to Young Citizens about expanding our fundraising and donations.

Young Citizens is celebrating our 30th Birthday this year and our first young Trustee adds to this celebration. Edge Watchorn, our Chair, commented on our newest appointment:

“Young Citizens believes in empowering young people to make a difference within themselves and their society. This year as we celebrate our 30th birthday the board wanted to ensure that we include the voice of young people on our board of trustees. We are delighted to have Finn Judge as our very first young Trustee and look forward to include his passion and ambition within the charity’s strategy.”
