New ‘Young Citizens’ website to give young people a new voice throughout the UK

The Citizenship Foundation, the charity which supports teachers and schools to provide citizenship education and experiences for all students, today launches Young Citizens. This is a new brand to help inspire children and young people to take part in society as active, engaged and motivated citizens – and thus to build a better future for us all.

The charity believes there is an urgent need for co-ordinated action by Government, and others, to strengthen the opportunities for young people to engage in democratic society.  Every young person should leave school with the knowledge, skills and confidence to take their place in society.  Tom Franklin, CEO of the Citizenship Foundation, says that now is the time to step up the charity’s work to reach more schools and teachers – and, thus, students.

Tom says,

‘There is an added urgency to our work, to reflect the crisis of confidence which many people feel towards democratic society. Our work has never been more needed. Every young person has the right to high quality citizenship education and experiences.  To capture the urgency, optimism, excitement and dynamism we feel about our mission, now is the time for us to have a new identity for all of our schools facing work.’

One of the first changes along with the new brand is the new Young Citizens website which launched today. The new website is particularly aimed at schools, teachers, our corporate supporters and volunteers, and gives them a coherent view of all the exciting events and programmes that Young Citizens is offering.
