Free Political Literacy Resources for Teachers

On the 29th October 2019 MPs backed Boris Johnson's call for an early general election to take place on 12th December. We have created a range of free resources that can help you to explore what a general election is and why we are having one with your students.

The General Election resource pack:
Aimed at key stages 3 and 4 this three part presentation, with supporting teacher notes, covers the following:
  • Part 1 - What is a general election?
  • Part 2 - Why are we having a general election now?
  • Part 3 - Researching the different parties

Democracy Ambassadors:
Aimed at key stages 3 and 4, this set of resources supports young people to become informed and empowered about our democracy. The resources are separated into the following parts
  • Part 1 - What is Democracy?
  • Part 2 - Voting
  • Part 3 - Local Government
  • Part 4 - More on Democracy
  • Part 5 - Ordinary People, Extraordinary Change

Free Go-Givers lesson pack:
Go-Givers provides flexible SMSC resources for busy primary teachers to develop caring and compassionate young citizens. Our free lesson pack includes a lesson all about democracy. During the lesson pupils explore the meaning of ‘democracy’ and the ways in which citizens can participate in democratic life in Britain. They learn about the role of the Prime Minister, Members of Parliament and political parties, as well as how a general election works.

Register your details and we'll send you the resources.
