Meet Jack Felvus, our new Ambassador

Young Citizens has appointed a new young Ambassador, Jack Felvus. Jack is a 19 year-old law student and studies LLB Law at the University of South Wales. He joins our team of other Ambassadors from different walks of life, who all play a role in helping to promote the cause of the charity and our work to help children and young people.

Jack has been a volunteer for Young Citizens since he was 16. Before that, during his time at secondary school, he was a participant in the national Mock Trial Competitions that are run by Young Citizens.  It was his involvement in these programmes which inspired his passion to pursue a career at the Bar. He describes how the Mock Trials programme greatly developed his personal skills and public speaking confidence. He has put those public speaking skills to use already for Young Citizens, through speaking on our behalf at meetings about citizenship in Parliament, at our fundraising events, and at fringe events at each of the main political party conferences!

During his time at the University of South Wales he is also a member of the University’s Law Society. He was also a member of the Sea Cadets for seven years, enabling him to develop essential leadership skills. Jack is very determined to play his role in increasing public legal education for young people, and ensuring they are fully involved in civic society. Citizenship education is not compulsory in Wales, except for the elements of ‘Global Citizenship’ in the Welsh Baccalaureate, and amongst his other activities for us, Jack has organised a meeting with the Welsh Government with the aim of promoting Young Citizens’ resources and the aims of public legal education.

Young Citizens is delighted to have Jack Felvus as our new and youngest Ambassador. Laura Hamm, our Joint Vice Chair, commented on this newest appointment:

“We’re so excited to have Jack agree to become one of our Ambassadors.  He has shown total dedication to the cause of our charity ever since he first got involved with us, while he was at secondary school – he has already done so much to support us.  We’re especially pleased to have Jack as our first young Ambassador.  Young Citizens believes young peoples’ voices should be heard and listened to throughout civic society – so we want to make sure that applies to us too!  We’ve recently recruited our first young Trustee, so with the addition of Jack as a young Ambassador, we’re making good strides.”
