Global property investors CC Land wanted to engage with the London community following their historic acquisition of the Leadenhall Building in 2017. They were keen to connect with young Londoners as they are the future employees and homeowners of the city.
Young Citizens partnered with CC Land to design and implement an educational programme to facilitate this. It was split into 3 phases:
Phase 1: Young Citizens brokered the relationship with CC Land and a local school, Edmonton County School. Our Education Team then created high quality lesson plans and PowerPoints for the teacher to use with a class of teenage students, which examined the history of the area with a particular focus on the world or work and how it’s evolved from the 16th century to modern day.
Phase 2: Young Citizens organised for the students to attend a tour of the Leadenhall Building and for a speed networking event with employees that worked within the building, to take place. The young people interviewed employees to learn more about their career paths and to find out more about the world of work.
Phase 3: The students worked in teams to create an exhibit piece that summarised their learnings. Their exhibit examined the past and the present of the Leadenhall district, looking at how the world of work has changed, and how they think it might continue to evolve in the future. The students work then became a central part of a public exhibition, which was displayed outside of the Leadenhall Building.
The impact
This programme created meaningful volunteering opportunities for CC Land’s employees and had a positive impact on the young people that took part, resulting in CC Land strengthening their relationship with their local community and with young people growing up in London.

The classroom lessons involved learning about the rich history of the Leadenhall area, and we were delighted to welcome a class of 30 to The Leadenhall Building so they can see first-hand what a modern working environment in a global financial hub is like. We hope this has helped them understand a bit more about London’s skyline and give them confidence as they embark on their own careers.”

“The students had a fantastic experience. The resources given prior to the trip provided students with excellent subject knowledge of the Leadenhall area. Additionally, when the students were given the chance to visit the building it really helped to bring the History to ‘life’. The students thoroughly enjoyed their visit as they were able to have experiences which were very memorable and useful such as meeting various employees of the building and going on the fastest elevator in Europe! All in all, working with Young Citizens and CC Land was a pleasure and something that we would hope to continue to do in the future.”
