Recruiting: Young Trustee (aged between 18 and 23) – voluntary role

Young Citizens helps to equip and inspire young people to take their place in society as engaged and active citizens. Formerly known as the Citizenship Foundation, we’re an education charity which has been making a difference for almost 30 years; helping young people develop the skills and confidence to play an active part in society and to understand the laws, rights and responsibilities which affect its citizens.

We believe passionately in democracy as the best means to create a fair, just, and equal society. In the current climate – with democracy under pressure from many directions – our work has never been more important.

We are seeking to recruit somebody between the ages of 18-23 to our Board of Trustees.  We try to reflect a relevant range of skills and experiences on our Board and we feel that we would benefit from the experience of somebody who has relatively recently been a student in the education system and/or has experience as a young active citizen or involvement in social action or youth voice. As well as this experience, we hope they will also bring insights into priorities and perspectives of the young people we seek to benefit.

The successful candidate will share our passion for the empowerment of young people as active citizens. We don’t expect them to have had previous experience as a trustee or in a leadership role, and we will provide them with mentoring and support to help them develop the knowledge about governance which will hopefully be of use to them in the future.  We also of course also welcome young people with previous direct experience or similar on advisory board or membership of networks with your peers.

Young Citizens is fully committed to equality of opportunity and diversity to ensure that we reflect the full breadth of young citizens we aim to support. We warmly welcome applications from all suitably-qualified candidates. However, as black and minority ethnic communities and women are slightly under-represented on our board, we would particularly welcome applications from these groups.

The closing date for applications is 5pm, 29th July 2019.
